RSPCA WEST HATCH
Virtual Tour 27 -
Cattery Treatment Room, Kitchen & Sluice.
Return to Virtual Tour
The cattery has a treatment room just
inside the entrance, where all cats are taken on arrival. Here they are
checked over and weighed by staff. If there are no health problems then the
animal care assistants can go ahead and vaccinate, worm and provide flea
treatment for them.
The treatment room is also used for the
blood testing of cats daily. All the cats need to have blood taken so that the
nurses can check for the presence of feline aids and feline leukaemia.
And as you can see from the final picture
- kittens quite often end up in this warm room. Hand rear kittens need feeding
every three to four hours, so can be a time consuming job. Once we have weaned
them they are able to go in a cat pen with other kittens so that they can find
new homes.The cattery contains a
separate kitchen and sluice room. The kitchen is used to prepare feeds and
wash up dishes, and the sluice room has 2 sinks so that litter trays can be
disinfected and then rinsed.
