Inspectorate
kennels

Case block is different from the others in that it
was built solely to house Inspectorate dogs.
When an Inspector removes animals from a member of
the public, it is not always possible for us to home them straight away. We
often either have to spend a long time getting their health back to normal, or
we have to wait for the case to go to court before the dogs are legally ours
to re-home. This means that the dogs can spend up to a year in the kennel
environment which is far from ideal.
This kennel block was built with just 6 kennels
inside. The outsides lead onto larger mixer runs, which means that either 3
dogs have access to a large run at all times, or if all the dogs are from the
same household (which often happens) they can all run together during the day.
The dogs in this block need special care, as they
are often sick, and accurate records have to be kept on each dog daily as
these records are often used in court as an aid to prosecution. Case dogs are
all weighed daily, and have a weekly health check recorded.
Sometimes dogs recover well, like this dog Barny,
who wanted constant attention,

and sometimes the original owners are never traced
- like in the case of these Lurcher puppies that were dumped in a country
lane.
Working in this kennel block can be very emotional
for the staff, but they care for each animal as if it were their own, and
give the dogs the best quality of life possible while they are in their care.
