Virtual Tour 12 -
Rabbit
house
Return to Virtual Tour
Our new rabbit house was finished in 2004.
We used to keep the rabbits in hutches at night,
and carry them forwards and backwards onto grassed areas during the day. This
was problematic for a number of reasons. Firstly it was very time consuming
and quite stressful for the rabbits themselves. Secondly the grass had no time
to recover, and the rabbits started to become ill due to the build up of urine
etc.
The new rabbit house allows them access to an
outside run 24 hours a day. This means that at night when they are naturally
most active, they are free to wander. It also means that we can properly
disinfect their accommodation, meaning less disease. The rabbits are cleaned
daily, and fed on fresh vegetables and hay twice a day.
